Grounding "Strengthen your roots before climbing upwards"
Defining Being Grounded
To ground yourself simply means bringing the runaway train of your thinking mind to a gentle stop so you can actually live in the present moment.
When your mind settles, your awareness sharpens.
You start noticing what is actually happening right in front of you and inside you with crystal clarity.
Learning to ground the mind isn’t about becoming rigid or dull; it’s about taking the steering wheel back from a mind that has wandered off on its own road trip.
Grounding In Depth: The Ungrounded Mind
Grounding is the practice of developing Stillness.
Stillness is a powerful skill. When everything around you goes quiet, you can finally hear even a single drop of rain.
This state of mind is especially critical for creatives, thinkers, artists, and problem-solvers.
When you spend your days stimulating your mind, your thoughts can easily take on a life of their own. Before you know it, you aren't using your mind; your mind is using you.
We’ve all experienced what an ungrounded mind feels like:
- Nodding along in a conversation while the other person's voice sounds like it’s coming through a tin can underwater.
- Replaying an argument in the shower for the forty-seventh time, complete with brilliant comebacks you forgot to say.
- Responding to someone on a three-second delay, like your brain is running on dial-up internet.
Being ungrounded means you may be physically in the room, but your mind has drifted off into outer space.
Most of us spend half our lives in this fog on complete autopilot without even realizing it. We’ve normalized the blur for so long that we don't even think to question it anymore.
Realize it isn't a permanent condition—the fog can be lifted!
But how?
The Recipe for Mental Turbulence
To ground ourselves, we need to first explore how we became ungrounded in the first place.
A mind becomes ungrounded when we feed it a constant buffet of high-voltage stimulation: packing every hour of the calendar, blasting intense soundtracks, binge-watching adrenaline-fueled thrillers, and topping it all off with a steady stream of espresso.
None of these things are inherently evil.
The trouble starts when stimulation becomes an addiction.
If taking a quiet afternoon with zero input feels physically itchy or unbearable, that's your mind's subtle way of admitting it is addicted to the chaos.
The quick antidote is very simple: embrace a little more boredom.
Slowing down, dialing back the sensory overload, and sitting in daily meditation gives the mental dust time to settle.
Meditation retrains your automatic habit of reacting to every little impulse, helping you navigate a busy world without losing your grip.
Learning to slow down and do less might feel like underachieving in a world obsessed with speed.
But look at the trees. Even they know to anchor their roots deep into the earth before daring to reach for the stars.
Path Of The Creator: Grounding
The journey of grounding the mind is ultimately a practice of stillness—learning to step back from over‑stimulating activities throughout your day.
Sometimes, all it takes is giving yourself simple, intentional pauses.
Taking a moment to feel your breath and notice your feet planted firmly on the ground can instantly anchor a scattered mind.
The deeper journey, however, is to address your mind at the reaction level.
It’s about discovering why you are constantly generating excessive, dramatic reactions to your everyday experiences.
Only when you heal this reactive layer can your mind naturally stay grounded in every moment—no matter what life throws at you.
Going even deeper, you can investigate why you feel a secret need for experiences that trigger these intense reactions in the first place.
Realize this truth: when you crave a specific experience, what you’re actually craving is the emotional reaction and physical sensation it pulls out of you.
Uncovering this dynamic brings you face‑to‑face with your deepest suffering states of mind—your hidden desires and fears.
Even deeper, it can help you to discover the beliefs that are driving all your fears and desires.
Cause Of Our Wild Reactions
Beneath every wild reaction sits a stubborn subconscious belief running the script behind your back.
Take one of the most common culprits:
“It is not okay to waste time.”
Attachment to this belief creates unpleasant reactions and sensations when you are wasting time, and pleasant ones when you are rushing through life.
So, the moment you cling to this idea, a five-minute delay feels like the house is on fire.
When an unexpected problem lands on your desk, panic takes the mic: “Fix it! Solve it! Clear it out right now so we aren't wasting precious time!”
The more you develop Self-Knowing, the faster you'll spot these hidden beliefs before they launch you into orbit.
And the more you realize you are the Creator of these beliefs, the more you will remember the power you have to rewrite them.
